Liberating Time Dictionary
A working glossary of time, systems of power, and humanity.
I’m word smith. I love looking up synonyms. Choosing the right word for something scratches a particular itch in my brain.
Maybe it’s my trauma response and fear of being misunderstood. Or maybe finding the word that fits something perfect is really that important.
Either way, here are some words and concepts that I’ve been milling about in my mind and teaching folks for the last 6 or so years.
This is a growing glossary of key concepts to describe, understand, and reclaim our experience of time.
I’ll add to it over time as we continue exploring how systems, habits, and cultural norms impact us!
Time Liberation
Time liberation is the practice of freeing ourselves from clock time and reclaiming the ability to live and work on human terms.
Clock Time
Clock time is the linear, dominant, and extractive model of time standardized by Western culture, which structures and governs our daily lives.
Time Oppression
Time oppression is how dominant systems—capitalism, white supremacy, ableism, patriarchy, and colonialism—use time as a tool of control and harm, forcing us to serve systems instead of ourselves.
Time Theft
Time theft refers to systemic, relational, or internal acts and mechanisms that steal, waste, or hijack our time.
I’d love to hear from you.
What words or phrases around time have you heard?

Time Confetti is one I’ve heard that resonated with how chopped up time can feel sometimes.
